Sharpness and How to Get It: Page 6

The photo at right was taken with the lens at aperture f1.8 (max. for that lens). The lens was focused on the green upright 2nd from the right.

The photo gradually loses sharpness both in front of, and behind the upright in focus.

The effect is not dramatic in this instance as the point of focus is approximately 6m from the camera.

The further away the point of focus, the less dramatic will be the affect of depth of field.

The small pic of the lens at the bottom of each photo shows the aperture used for the photo above.

This picture is taken at an aperture of f5.6 and therefore has slightly better Depth Of Field.

The camera focus is the same as before; only the aperture of the lens has changed (and of course the shutter speed to ensure correct exposure).

This photo is taken at aperture f16.

Sharpness extends over a greater distance than in either two examples above.
